Seeking inspiration…

There are many ways that one can become inspired, although more often than not inspiration hits when you’re not expecting it.

If you are struggling to find inspiration, here are some of our top tips:

  • Magazines, sometimes something as simple as flicking through mags such as Living Etc, Elle Decoration and others, can open your imagination. These types of magazine often showcase popular and current trends in a scheme that will suit your space.
  • Try not to bring in too many opinions, although we all love our friends and family to pitch in, it is possible to become overwhelmed by choices.
  • Don’t have too high expectations, sometimes finding your inspiration can take a while. Leave yourself enough time so there is no need to rush and no added pressure. Try to not get disheartened if you don’t find ‘The one’ right away, there are so many options, and we’re happy to go through them all with you, but doing so all in one sitting can be overbearing.
  • Look around you! Inspiration can come from anywhere, so try to keep an open mind.
  • Come speak to our staff! Bring in some photos of the space you wish to decorate, let us know of your likes and dislikes and from there we can work to inspire you, finding your dream wallpaper and/or fabric. This is the best way to approach the decorating process, we are here to help, so utilise us as much as you can!

Introducing Mylands Paint

We are pleased to announce that we are now stocking Mylands paint. The brand is an exciting new addition to our company and has been the best kept secret of interior designers and architects until recently. We are very pleased to now be able to offer the fantastic product range to you.

Mylands have been producing top quality paint since 1884 and are Britain’s oldest family owned and run paint manufacturer. They pride themselves in the quality of their products only using the finest ingredients and years of experience to ensure they produce the finest products on the market.

Although you may not have heard of them before you will have almost certainly have seen them. Mylands have been at the heart of the British film and television industry from the beginning of moving pictures, and were used by the BBC even before colour television. Their paints have been used on the sets of some of the world’s most successful film and television shows, including Harry Potter, James Bond, Game of Thrones and Downtown Abbey where for example, Empire grey was used in the kitchens.

All the paints are water based and have  low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content meaning they are environmentally friendly and safe to use around your family. Mylands are one of the last remaining manufacturers to use natural earth pigments, which results in superior depth of colour and coverage.
Mylands paints have a high opacity and therefore the coverage they provide is superior compared to some of the main competitors in the designer paint market. Only requiring two coats for complete coverage, even over contrasting colours, as well as the quick drying nature of this paint mean it is the perfect paint for all your home renovation projects.

The signature Marble Matt Emulsion is a rich matt paint with fine ground marble powder creating a natural hard-wearing finish that is not only beautifully flat but can be scrubbed and retouched. Suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and perfect for high traffic areas combined with the on trend matt finish makes Mylands one of the best paints on the market, allowing you to achieve the desirable contemporary matt finish with the ultimate practicality.

The Mylands colours are also available in Wood and Metal Matt, Eggshell and Gloss finishes suitable for interior and exterior surfaces and Masonry and Floor paint, and  is therefore the perfect product for use in any scheme whether it has a modern, contemporary   or more classic and traditional feel.

Little Greene & The National Trust

This month Little Greene launched a long term partnership deal with The National Trust. The company has taken action by re-branding their paint colour-cards, tins and brochures with the National Trust logo. In addition to this, they have already begun research to work towards a new collection of archive colours which have been found in the Trust’s many properties. The team at Little Greene are thrilled about this new relationship, boasting that both parties share “a real synergy: conservation, restoration and reinvention are at the heart of everything both organisations hold dear. The National Trust’s ethos of protecting the past for the benefit of future generations echoes Little Greene’s approach to the rediscovery and use of historical colour and pattern in the 21st century.”

Little Greene will supply both interior and exterior paints for the Trust’s restoration projects in existing and ‘new’ Little Greene shades. Little Greene are donating a percentage from the sale of every can of paint in support of the National Trust’s ongoing conservation work, to ensure that the best-loved properties of the past can continue to be enjoyed.  Little Greene believe that this collaboration is an obvious progression in their journey to aid in preserving our historic environment.  Additionally it will assist their ability to undertake colour research that is deeply important to the authenticity of their product.

New colour-cards sporting the National Trust colours, as a capsule collection, are expected to arrive towards the end of 2018.

In store we hold a full range of Little Greene paint colour boards to allow for easier viewing and aid your interior design decisions. Our friendly staff are always on hand to give advice.
